Jungle Snow reflects on the increasingly disrupted weather conditions of a shifting global climate and explores notions of wilderness, erased or constructed for industry or leisure.
Relly draws on first hand observations from diverse locations including the fabricated oasis of Las Vegas and the depletion of surrounding water sources, rising coastal shorelines and displaced wildlife in zoos. She works with the fluid and unpredictable qualities of her materials and processes to present impressions of both urban and natural environments in states of uncertainty and contradiction.
Jungle Snow introduces two mediums new to Relly’s practice, both of which emphasize the relationship between mark making and surface. The paintings are made with water soluble oil applied onto gessso-primed aluminium, the monotypes by painting directly onto a clear acrylic plate which is then run through a press to produce a unique image on paper.
